Happy New Year!

It's the first day in January and another Fresh Sewing day. Happy New year everybody!

Lily's Quilts

Well it has been some year for me in 2013.  I started this blog last January with the intention of documenting my projects and progress in learning new skills and I hoped an online presence would help me make new friends and connect with other quilters.  It certainly has delivered on all these things!

I made a few things from patterns but had the best fun taking part in some sew alongs. I especially love the paper piecing Quilt-A-Long of Doctor Who blocks, hosted by Trillium Designs and Whims & Fancies.  I even won a prize for the entry of my Bounce quilt at Leanne's Finish-A-Long.  Thank you Knotted Threadsfor my lovely FQB of Florence!

I joined the Global Scrap Bee on the back of Plum and June's Let's Get Acquainted Blog Hop and the Modern Quilt Guild of Ireland's Bee starting today.  I am even guest posting a tutorial today on the MQGI blog  on these scrappy blocks inspired by the back of a quilt by Elizabeth Hartman!

Charly and I entered Pet's on Quilts and it was a brilliant linky party - so much fun taking doggy photos on quilts in the garden!
We lost Ben our beautiful Basset in February (upper right) and adopted Wilbur the Happy Hound in March.  Yes I know Wilbur looks sad in the photo - believe me he practices that look for treats!  He and Charly have me well trained.

I made my first pincushion for the Modern Irish Quilters Swap!  It was so much fun we had a second one at Christmas.  I really loved the swaps from last year.  The Halloween Swap organised by Martha and the Mini Quilt Swap hosted by Schnitzel & Boo were both fantastic fun.  Thanks to all my swap partners who made such lovely things.  I had great fun making these.

It was a year of firsts for sure.  I joined the Irish Patchwork society, entered the bloggers Quilt Festival, conquered curves in the Modern Mini challenge, designed a block, wrote my first tutorial and gave Free Motion Quilting a try!

I loved playing with design and I will try and do much more of this in the coming year.  What I'll take with me the most heading into 2014 are the friendships I've made all the way from New Zealand to Canada and both online and locally here in Ireland.  Kristi @ Schnitzel & Boo tagged her swap "Make a Quilt, make a friend". She was right! Thanks to everyone who's left a comment and here's to a fresh sewing year. Happy 2014!
