He is made with a zig-zag stitch and moving the fabric sideways free motion from left to right instead of straight through the machine. Using 2 threads it gives a denser stitch and is a really fun way to build a picture.
The background is a swirly free motion pattern, in my head I imagine this as wind and it reminds me of the nursery rhyme that says The North Wind doth blow and we shall have snow and what will the Robin do then, poor thing. He sits in the barn and keeps himself warm and hides his head under his wing, poor thing!
My little guy is sat on a branch as we have a tubby Robin who visits our garden and sits on the fence or on the low tree branches annoying Charly our Jack Russell. You have to admire that cheeky spirit!

A sweet little quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love the details in this mini quilt, Ruth; especially the thin layer of snow or frost on the branch. Lovely!

ReplyDeleteForgot to add , one of my favourite poems , in our family the robin in the poem pooped (we are very lowbrow)
ReplyDeleteLovely mini! Your comments on your process intrigue me -- FMQ with a zigzag stitch? Mind blown!
ReplyDeleteSo adorable. Great job. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely precious, that little robin is adorable! I'm really intrigued by how you made the robin. FMQ with a zig zag?! I'm going to have to try that out some time!
ReplyDeleteSuch an adorable quilt Ruth! And the poem so sweet - I had not heard that one before :*) I love watching the birds in our yard - so sad that the cold is coming and they will be scarce. Thankfully we have a cardinal family nearby who visits regularly to give me a splash of color happiness in the winter months!
