Finish-A-Long quarter 3 goals

It's time for Finish-A-Long again and I have been busy in my head all weekend trying to put together a doable list for this quarter!

I managed 2 finishes from my quarter 2 list, so this quarter is pretty much a carryover on almost everything and I've added in things I really, really want to get done!

Carryover

I knew this wintery quilt wasn't going to be something I wanted to work on in the spring but I'm not taking it off the list, as I do want to have it done for Christmas this year!
  • Wilbur!

This one is nearly done - just needs the final push to get finished!

I have no excuse for this one really.  I bought the most beautiful Tula Pink backing fabric from Craftsy on sale and have a half bolt of wadding on hand and it's still not done!  This quarter definitely!

  • Medallion QAL with Modern Quilt Guild of Ireland.
I did manage another border on this and am in repetitive block hell on the last round.  I'm paper piecing stars, which probably would have been done quicker if I had template pieced diamonds and sewed them EPP style.  Oh well, live and learn!

  • Modern Irish Bee Quilt
There are 2 more of these 20 beautiful blocks on the way to me so I've not finished and am glad to have this one to look forward to.  I just love these!  Thanks to all my Modern Irish Bee hivemates for these gorgeous blocks.
Using Patchwork Prism by Anna Maria Horner as inspiration this quilt top is a rainbow of fabrics from Minimalista and Florence.  I've got some of it pieced - 2 more rows to go.  Can't wait!

  •  Colour Wheel

I did make a colour wheel for my mini-quilt swap so I'm re-considering on these hand dyed fabrics.  I'm open to suggestions - thinking of lots of wonky houses maybe?

And because that's not nearly enough to be getting on with how about a few new ones?
  • Global Scrap Bee

I received these lovelies from my Global Scrap Hivemates.  I'm piecing them all together along with 6 more to complete the quilt top.  The block is from Clover & Violet and is really quick and fun to do.  This is going to be such a cute quilt!  Lots of people gave extra- much appreciated!

  • Picnic Quilt
I've been thinking of a picnic quilt with laminate fabric backing and this field of summer flowers seems just the thing.  These are blocks from Stash Bee Hive 10.  Thank you ladies!  I'm thinking of a double border on these guys to grow the quilt.  What do you think?  Double border or more flower blocks?  The pattern is Spring Blossom from Charise Creates.

And finally remember this Coastal Cruiser (pattern by Tula Pink)?  Well it's finished!  And a cousin of mine likes it so much she wants 3 of them!

  • So on the list are 3 more

That's it, that's the list for this quarter!

Q2 FAL Goals

So quarter 1 of this year flew by like the gale force winds we had after Christmas.  I'm in complete denial about it, that and the fact that I didn't finish any of the projects I picked in January to work on through to the end of March! Zero, nada, nought!  How so? Because? Well I got sidetracked playing.  Playing with designs, playing with squares, making a baby Medallion quilt, learning about colour in fabric selection and generally just choosing to work on anything but my Q1 goals!

So this quarter I'm going to be a bit kinder to myself.  I've got 2 carryovers and the rest are current projects that I am already well into so surely there's a finish in here somewhere!

Carryover

To be honest this is a wintery quilt which I may not want to work on in the spring but it is so beautiful I do want to have it done for Christmas this year so it's first on the list to give it the best chance!
  • Bachelors Walk
So close to a finish, just needs a teeny bit more quilting and binding!  Is that cheating putting it on the list?

New Projects
  • Wilbur!

This is a Ticker tape project with a  basset outline handstitched with perle cotton and filling in the spaces with scraps!  I started stitching down Wilbur's head and am now thinking of taking out the straight stiching and zig-zagging as I think I prefer that overall look for this one.
  • Mexico Quilt
Top is pieced (pattern from Creative Quilting Magazine by Sally Ablett), backing fabric just bought and washed.

I'm not a prewasher but I got this gorgeous owl fabric from a bargain shop in town so not taking any chances it got a turn in the washing machine.  Just need to give it a press and I'm good to go with this one!
I really love this quilt top.  These are not my usual colours but I just find this whole quilt top so pretty and soft, it just works so well for the living room where I hope to use it.  It's made with Noteworthy, Essex linen natural and a charm pack of Moda Bella Solid Neutrals.  No backing yet so will have to shop for this one!

  • Medallion QAL with Modern Irish Quilters
This project has been tons of fun and we have a deadline in April so I'm aiming to at least get another border on by then if not the next 2
  • Modern Irish Bee Quilt
I was Queen Bee for January and have 20 beautiful blocks to assemble.  I love these and am hoping to add 5 more for a 5x5 layout.  Thanks to all my hivemates for these gorgeous blocks.
Using Patchwork Prism by Anna Maria Horner as inspiration this quilt top is a rainbow of fabrics from Minimalista and Florence.  I love how it is turning out so far!

  •  Colour Wheel

Finally my last on the list is only just in the planning stage.  I have all these beautiful hand dyed fabrics from the Irish Patchwork Society workshop taught by Paula Rafferty and I've bought the colour wheel pattern by Rachel at Stitched in Color.  I'm hoping to place these fabulous colours on different neutral backgrounds as a colour exploration.

So that's it, that's the list.  Wish me luck.  If the last quarter is anything to go by I'm going to need it!

2014 FAL Goals

Leanne at She Can Quilt has passed the mantel for Finish-A-Long (quarterly linky party) to The Littlest Thistle.   Last quarter, it gave me the push to finish my Halloween quilt, that  I had started in 2012 and I even won a FQB of Florence the previous quarter.  So I'm linking up again for another year!

Finish Along 2014

I do struggle picking the projects for each quarter.  I have a long to do list.  This quarter, I'm trying the projects that take a little bit longer to finish and are still hanging around, or the ones I've started and really want to finish but have gotten distracted from by new ideas or swaps or present making!  So here's the list for Q1 of 2014:

  • Doctor Who paper pieced Quilt-A-Long - I've only a few of these blocks done.  There will be 20 in the finished quilt. Patterns can be found int the Flickr group here if anyone wants to make a Tardis or K-9!
  • City Sampler Quilt-A-Long - About 30 blocks out of 100 completed so far from Tula Pinks 100 Modern Blocks!

  •  Bachelors Walk - The idea for this quilt came from a traditional block called Bachelors Puzzle, so I changed it up a bit and bought fabric in the sale from the Limerick Quilt Centre and have it cut up ready for piecing.

  • Fussy Cut Square Baby I spy quilt - this came from the same block as the solids quilt above!  I received 12 Christmas square in square as part of What the Bobbin's fussy cut swap and I really want to make them into a baby quilt.  It means making 25 more!  I think this will be a fun project.

  •  Puppy Park squares - this is an idea to use up my scraps of Puppy Park fabric by Riley Blake.  I've kind of been on a rectangle kick lately!
Each block is based on a room in my house looking out the windows.  I tried to explain this one to a friend and I got the look - you know the one where you have suddenly sprouted 2 heads and the other person doesn't know which head she is talking to!  It won't mean anything to anyone other than me but it's to protect the sofa and my clothes from the dogs when we are lazing about in the evenings.  I'll probably change the yellow in the bottom corner, that's jarring me a little.

  • Penny Sampler Quilt - this is one I have loved working on but Halloween and Christmas got in the way so I want to finish this one this quarter.  If nothing else on my list gets done I'd be happy as long as this one does.  It's Stiched in Color's design and was offered as an e-course on paper piecing, precise piecing and applique last year.

So that's the list. 6 quilts - that's ambitious and probably un-achievable with a full time job.  Oh well, aiming high - wish me luck!  Linking up to Finish-A-Long 2014!
