Pets on Quilts

It's Pets on Quilts time again!
Pets on Quilts 2016
Last year we struggled to get Wilbur onto a quilt and managed to get just his tail on - this year we couldn't get him off it!

Even with our new puppy Maggie and Charly playing like mad all around him, he had a good roll around in my layers of charm quilt from last years blog hop.  Barking his head off, he was happy to tell the other two this ones not for sharing!  I think I'm going to have to let him keep this one and put it on his spot on the sofa!

Maggie snuck up on him a few times - puppies are like that, they ignore you and keep trying until they get tired!

Or meet a face like this!

This was as far as she got!  It's funny how she plays with Charly but snuggles up to Wilbur.  He's getting used to her and they now sleep in the big bucket together while Charly sleeps in her basket.

Even with a new puppy in the house Wilbur always manages to find a way to be the centre of attention!  In our previous entries he has stolen the show with action shots and photo bombing Charly.  This time around though after all the initial mayhem, we tried to get a proper portrait.  So this is our entry to Pets on Quilts, a Wilbur year... again!

After the year he's had with all the tests and seizures it feels right to give him his day in the sun.  He has been brilliant and thankfully the latest dose of meds seems to be working.  Hopefully with a little bit of puppy training (we started puppy classes with Maggie last Saturday!) I am aiming for a family portrait of sorts.  If I can manage to have all three sit still on a quilt with mum and G that would be fantastic - aim high I say!

Please pop on over to Pets on Quilts and say hi to all the furballs.  Wilbur would very much appreciate a vote if you were so inclined!  There are lots of prizes to be won so don't miss it!

Pets on Quilts!

I'm sorry if you are tired of dog posts - last one for a while I promise!  This is our entry for Pets on Quilts hosted by Lilypad Quilting.  This is all about the furballs so feel free to skip the text for the photos!
Last years successful portrait of the 2!
Every year to celebrate Pets on Quilts we bring out a big bag of treats and do a photo shoot in the garden.  Last summer was  a bit challenging but we got there in the end.  This summer has been downright awful.  The sunny spells seem to come when we are at work and the opportunities to get into the garden and not get covered in mud or rain have been few and far between.  But we tried!

Wilbur Ticker Tape Quilt and Dog Gone Cute blocks from Sew Fresh Quilts

This year, I had the brilliant idea of having the two dogs pose on quilts of themselves. I thought this would be the best idea ever!  Well it had to be as mum refused to lend me back my Lost in London quilt or Red/Black colour block quilt for the photo shoot.  When I told her what I had in mind i.e. pets on quilts, she gave me that look and said you're out of your mind if you think I'm letting those dogs on my clean quilts!

So plan B it was and full of enthusiasm, in between showers, we ventured out and attempt number 1 didn't quite go to plan.  Realising the grass needed cutting for half decent photos, session 1 turned into lets play while G pretends the lawnmower is nowhere to be found!  They had a ball, literally.
Why does Charly have a ball and i don't?
Throw it! Throw it! Throw it!
Look at me!
Zoom!
Its alright Wilbs you'll get the ball next time!
Session number 2 didn't quite go to plan either.  Wilbur normally steals the show so we thought we'd start with him.  Unfortunately he was in one of those mental moods where over excitement seems to be the state of being for the day!  Trying to get him onto to his quilt and look up at the camera was just not going to happen.  Eventually we got this.
He really is on the quilt - well his tail is - that counts right?
Then he had enough and it was belly rub time,
then eat G's nose

or maybe his hand
or wait chase Charly time!
Wilbur you are such a ham!
I had to laugh when reading Yvonne's post about the names they have for their cat Puppy.  Wilbur has lots of names.  G calls him buddy, I call him Snuffleuffagus, G calls him Heffalump as even if the sofa is half emtpy he has to jump up on you, right at your head to get onto the sofa and across you to the empty bit - bassets are not known for their grace!  I admitted to Yvonne, I also call him the Horrible Animal on occasion (if you're wondering why check our this post!)

Now Charly on the other hand is my little pal.  G calls her the Rat, I call her Charly Bear! We both call her the Good dog!

She always comes when called and really wants to please you so you can be her slave and throw the ball for her all day long! Still that ball comes in handy as it can be a great bribe to get her to pose.

This is best I could do on the day!  So this has to be our entry for Pets on quilts - dog on a quilt!
And then back to play - don't they look so much happier on the grass?
He did eventually get that ball though he looks quite worried about it!
And it didn't last long!

This is the 3rd year we've entered and even though the weather did not co-operate this year we did our very best and linked up at the last minute!  Voting starts soon, please keep Wilbur's Tail/Charly  in mind for a vote and there are lots of prizes to be had over on Lilypad quilting where you can check out the other entries too!

Mark your diaries - Pets on Quilts is coming up!

My favourite linky party is Pets on Quilts!  Every year Lilypad Quilting hosts the linkup for blog posts and Flickr photos of our furballs in quilt form or posing on quilts and lots of prizes are given away for dog on quilt, cat on quilt, quilts on horses, quilts featuring dog/cat etc.  One year there was even a hedgehog posing on a quilt!
I've entered  both our furballs and even though Charly looks really cute on a quilt somehow Wilbur always manages to steal the show!

It's the action shots that do it I think!

We have great fun every year doing a photo shoot in the garden and they love it on account of the abundance of treats required to get them to sit still for a few minutes!  They have me well trained...

Mark your diaries August 17th is the date to link up with Lilypad quilting! Really looking forward to it!

Pets on Quilts 2014

It may have seemed a little quiet around here but I've been a busy beaver making deadlines, writing a pattern and testing blocks.  I'll have more quilt related stuff to show during the week but for now the sun has finally come out and we've been able to have our annual photo shoot with the dogs.  It's Pets on Quilts time again!

Last year we entered Charly, for the dogs on quilt category, to my favourite Link up party hosted by Lilly Pad Quilting and this year its Wilbur's turn!  This post is all about Wilbur sitting on a quilt so feel free to skip the text for the photos!

Wilbur is our rescue Basset Hound who adopted us nearly a year and a half ago.  He is quite mad in the head and was in the shelter for a small while as he is over enthusiastic about most things (pulls on the lead, plays rough, tries to grab things out of your hands, steals food from the kitchen counter tops!)  I've written about Wilbur's happy, bouncy character in this earlier post  with lots of photos of him settling in and pretty much taking over the whole house!

But to be fair to Wilbur, he has learned some restraint since we got him and he tries really hard to be good.  We try really hard to be calm and patient and he knows he can't play rough with me though he still nips my knee every now and again for attention!

He is 8 years old and thinks he's 2!  He was found straying in Mullingar, up the middle of the country, eating out of rubbish bins and he was brought to the pound.  They were going to put him to sleep on his 7th day there when thankfully Ash Animal rescue took him in and that's where we found him!

He does a great sit when there are treats on offer.  I've never seen a dog whose bum hits the floor so fast as Wilbur when he thinks there is food coming his way!  Especially apples & bananas, he loves those and we guess its from the rubbish bin diet he had for a short while.

We've been waiting all weekend for the rain to stop and the ground to dry out a little to have a photo shoot - an excuse really to do a training session with treats.  They don't last long around Wilbur who seems to inhale his food half the time!

The quilt is my Halloween finish from January which took me longer than anticipated to make!

Of course we couldn't leave Charly out. She is 5kg and Wilbur is 25Kg but she thinks she's the boss!

Wilbur has other ideas about that!

To win some prizes, (Lily Pad Quilting has tons of prizes on offer) please pop on over there and if you could give Wilbur a vote we'd appreciate it!
